Things to Consider if you want to Build a Private Pool in Your Home

Most house designs in the Philippines take in mind luxury very rarely. Often times, the most luxuries additions to a home would be a patio, a terrace, a rooftop open area, and a garage. Albeit it’s one of nicer things in life that Filipinos want to have, a private pool is rarely part of a house’s initial design. If you already have a built home, what thing do you have to consider if you’re interested in adding a swimming pool?

Space

The most obvious consideration is how much free space do you have in your home and is it enough for your desired pool. A very basic and tiny pool may need to be the size of at least 6.5x6.5m to fit more than 1 person comfortably with a slightly sloping depth of up to 5 feet and have space for a safety step, ladders, and a 1.5m walkway perimeter. The ideal ratio for a pool though should be that it is at least twice as long as it is wide. 10x 20m is the smallest recommended size than compromises little to nothing.

Permits

This will depend on where you live. If you are living inside a gated private subdivision, check with your developer if there are necessary permits before you can start pool construction. Not only that, but in some subdivisions in the Philippines, you aren’t allowed to alter any aspect of the house design or façade. This may affect your pool’s overall plan.

Budget

Even if you have the space and the permits for a pool, it’s not happening if you don’t have the budget. Steps towards pool installation roughly include demolition of the area, digging, assessment of wiring and plumbing, construction proper, and finishing. Including permits, materials, machinery, and labor, your will need at least P600,000 to afford a pool that’s about 10x20m in size.

Maintenance

Are you sure that you will be using the swimming pool regularly? Because if you want it to stay in good shape, you will have to constantly use it to avoid the deterioration of the water ways as well as to avoid turning your pool into a mosquito breeding ground. If you think that you have the time or resources to maintain a pool, then by all means add it to your house design in the Philippines.

A swimming pool gives any home the feeling of luxury to guests but for home owners, a pool is a nice luxury that you can always count of for stress relief, physical fitness, guest entertainment, and family bonding.
